March Maths

8th Mar 2026

The boys and girls in 5th and 6th have been working hard, as usual, on solving maths problems and exploring with different methods and resources. This month the class have been connecting fractions, decimals and percentages. The boys and girls are being challenged every day and learning from different approaches to solving maths problems. The class have also been exploring with 3D shapes, building upon their prior knowledge and developing a wider maths vocabulary. The class used Chromebooks, as well as paper, to explore and examine 3D nets, tetrahedra and polyhedra, and the boys and girls were able to manipulate the digital 3D shapes to reveal how many faces and edges they have. There was plenty of debate when shapes were looked at in 2D form so the ability to move the shapes and manipulate them was a great way to settle those arguments! The class then took on the challenge of creating buildings using the 3D shapes which was both challenging and fun! The boys and girls were asked to create periscopes, as part of our learning about light and reflection in Science, so collaboration, creativity and more exploration of 3D shapes took over the classroom!
