World Book Week 2026

8th Mar 2026
5th and 6th Class enjoyed World Book Day with celebratory activities taking place all week. We continued our fantastic and gripping novel, 'War Horse', by Michael Morpurgo, which the students are really enjoying so far. The class explored the picture text, 'Milo Imagines the World', written by Matt de la Pena and illustrated by Christian Robinson. The students used strategies such as predicting and connecting to uncover the depths of what first seemed like a simple story. On Wednesday, the students partipated in a Zoom webinar with Catherine Gilliland who read aloud the story of 'The Paperbag Princess'. The laughter and enjoyment felt by the class was heartwarming as the very talented Catherine drew in the attention of all the students with her humorous delivery of the story and passion for literacy. On Thursday the class were invited to dress up for World Book Day, with a bit of discussion centred on the book that inspired different costumes. The class participated in literacy stations focusing on grammar. The boys and girls created beautiful, imaginative and funny book covers. Not forgetting our World Book Day as Gaeilge, the class shared in the reading of a wonderful picture book called 'Frog sa Spéir' which they then wrote a book review about in Irish. On Friday, the class wrote Six Word Stories, which were a mixture of themes including humour, passion for football and thought-provoking!
