WWI themed STEM

21st Mar 2026

All the boys and girls from both 5th and 6th Classes worked together in groups over the last few months on WWI history and STEM projects. This week, both classes presented their projects. In history, the projects focused on different topics such as life in the trenches, machinery and weapons, womens' roles during WW1, battles throughout WWI, and the role of animals throughout WWI. While each group presented, the rest of the students took notes about what they found interesting and added it to their 'KWL' charts to mark their progress of learning throughout the unit of work. The projects showed great teamwork, artistry and really interesting information which struck a lot of discussion among the students throughout the presentations. The STEM projects focused on WWI planes. The students planned and designed their planes, decided what materials and equipment they needed, and then worked collaboratively to engineer their planes. One plane contained a pin that, when pulled, released 'bombs' from beneath the aircraft. Really impressive!! Other planes were camouflaged and almost took flight! Well done to all!
